Bruins Track Team Wins District Title
JEFFERSON CITY -- The Rock Bridge boys track and field team won five events and medaled in all but one to defend its Class 4 District 5 championship yesterday at Adkins Stadium/Licklider Track. Jefferson City actually won the most boys events -- seven -- but the Jays couldn't overtake a deep Bruins squad that advanced at least one entry in every event except the 300 hurdles for Saturday's sectional at West Plains.

City Near End of Federal Grant Money for Energy Efficiency
Work will begin tomorrow on one of the final two projects funded through a $1 million federal stimulus grant received by the city in 2009 to improve energy efficiency in city-owned buildings. Meyer Electric, which was contracted by the city to complete the two jobs, will install energy-efficient lighting in the city parking garage at Eighth and Cherry streets, and the company will do similar work in the parking garage at Seventh and Walnut streets.

Rock Bridge seniors Will Echelmeier and Austin Evans would like nothing more than to cap their high school golf careers by leading the Bruins to a second consecutive MSHSAA Class 4 championship. Kewpies Lose in District 9 Baseball Tournament
The fourth-seeded Hickman baseball team scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh inning yesterday but could not rally past Class 4 District 9 host Troy Buchanan in a 2-1 loss. Troy scored all of its runs in the second inning off Hickman starter Jordan See, who allowed four hits and one earned run over six innings for the Kewpies (15-10).
