Flue Fire Damages Rural County Home
A fire yesterday southeast of Columbia caused significant damage to a home dating to the 1800s. At about 6:30 p.m., J.D. Allen noticed flames around the chimney of his home at 7451 Bass Lane. The 68-year-old resident evacuated and called 911.

ORLANDO, Fla. - Solange Dao wishes she were neater. Her desk at her small engineering firm in Orlando has so many piles of paper on it that she has turned an adjacent chair into an additional "filing" area. "This morning I had an interview come in, and he walked in and I kind of turned around and looked at my desk, and I thought, `He must think I'm crazy,' " Dao said.

Judy Ballard, 48, of Columbia passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at Boone Hospital Center after 10 years of fighting her failing health. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery.
George H. Stemmons, 83, of Fayette died Monday, Jan. 28, 2007, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Fayette. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Columbia.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Tebbetts United Methodist Church with the Rev. Anselm Williams officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery in Tebbetts.
