Tiger Men Can't Wait to Go Carroll-Ing ; Transfer Improves Prospects for Next Season.

The speculation has come most often in the moments when the Missouri men's basketball team can't seem to get a rebound, as was the case in losses to Kansas State; or when it can't slow down a post player, like at Nebraska; or when it needs an inside bucket because the perimeter jumpers weren't falling, as against Kansas. That's when fans sign on to message boards and hypothesize about what could have been had 6-foot-8, 225-pound junior DeMarre Carroll been able to play this season instead of ...

A Chance for History ; Douglass Can Capture First District Since '55.

STURGEON - Douglass has yet to play an opponent with a winning record in the Class 2 District 5 Tournament, but if the Bulldogs are crowned district champions for the first time in more than half a century, they will have certainly earned the title. City, County Need New, Fair Development Rules

What more do developers want? At present, the city of Columbia and Boone County have ordinances heavily weighted in favor of sprawl and growth. It is usual for any project - no matter how damaging or destructive - to be approved by the Columbia City Council or Boone County Commission. While there is plenty of blame to be heaped on the current members of the council and commission, the real fault lies in ages- old ordinances. These were promulgated back in the days of Babbitt - not Bruce, but ...

Trib Talk

"I live in Fulton, and I was calling about the article that I read in the paper about Columbia and the way they're doing math. Here in Fulton we call it `new math.' And my daughter, who's now in fourth grade, doesn't know basic addition, basic subtraction, basic multiplication - and now they're throwing division at her. I understand how they're teaching it, but to me it's a lot more work and a lot less successful." "My question is why did the retail gasoline prices on Monday go up 15 cents a ...

Under the Hood ; Size Matters in Choice of Adequate Compressor

Q: I'm thinking about buying an air compressor to fill up tires, inflate pool toys and maybe to use as an air tool to remove bolts, drill holes, etc. Can you describe the pros and cons of one that plugs into the cigarette lighter or battery versus one that plugs into the wall in the garage? What should I look for in the specs? - Paul Connelly, San Jose, Calif. A: Good question, Paul, and it's one with several answers. First, air compressors require quite a bit of electricity to do their work,...
