County to Acquire Building ; No Specific Plan for Johnston Paint Site.

The Boone County Commission is set to give final approval to a contract at its regular meeting Tuesday to purchase the Johnston Paint and Decorating building at 613 E. Ash St., where the company has done business since November 1983. The county will pay $685,000 for the property, the funds coming from surplus funds from 2006, Boone County Southern District Commissioner Karen Miller said. The county had a surplus of about $700,000 in its general fund at the end of last year.

Retirement Center Evacuated for Fire

A small roof fire at a retirement center in southeast Columbia caused 46 people to evacuate and $10,000 in damage, the Columbia Fire Department said. No one was injured. Firefighters were called at about 4 p.m. to a fire on the roof of Lutheran Services at Lenoir Woods Care Center, 3300 New Haven Road, according to a news release from the fire department.
