Blood Flows Too Freely in Rambo's Sad Reprisal

Like him or not, Sylvester Stallone is responsible for two of biggest icons in modern American pop culture: Rocky and Rambo. And like it or not, the 61-year-old Stallone insists that he can still flex it like the old days, in recent attempts to revive both screen personas. Last year's "Rocky Balboa" was a surprisingly thoughtful take on the aging prizefighter, but this year's "Rambo" is just bloody ridiculous. Devoid of any real reason to even exist, the film dedicates itself to becoming the...

Up to Speed On `Lost' From Season 3

Time to catch up with "Lost," but that's far easier said than done. The third season's two-hour closer, "Through the Looking Glass," was a wild ride, with Charlie (Dominic Monaghan) gone, apparently for good, along with a whole swatch of familiar Others - including M.C. Gainey's indelible Tom. Quick plot: Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) comes under fire from mad Russian with nine lives Mikhail Bakunin (Andrew Divoff) and to escape him, dives down to the Looking Glass research station to find Charl...

Missouri Restocks Receiver Corps

Missouri recruit Gahn McGaffie was the starting quarterback at Galena Park, Texas, High School the last three years, but with the Tigers' spread-the-wealth philosophy on offense and the robust supply of quarterbacks headed to Columbia, it's no wonder McGaffie plans to begin his MU career catching passes, not throwing them. "In talking to the Missouri coaches, they've talked a lot about playing him as a slot receiver in their offense," Galena Park Coach Ray Zepeda said of McGaffie, who gave a ...

Cool Dry Place ; Like No Other:

Extraordinary, isn't it, how barriers often bring out the best in us? For Elizabeth Mitchell, it all began on the other side of the glass. There, separated from her fellow actor by an unbreakable pane, she slowly penetrated that obstruction with her kind, compassionate eyes and knowing gestures, insinuating her way into his good graces - ours, too - before sending it all someplace completely different, an environment enigmatic yet alluring, with that sly smile.

Brotherly Love ; Tory and Trey Hicks Bring Competitive Spirit to Sturgeon.

The bell to mark the end of sixth period would ring in a few minutes. All but one student had shuffled off the Sturgeon High School basketball court and into the locker room to change back into their school clothes. Trey Hicks remained behind Tuesday. Dressed in a pair of black gym shorts and a blue long-sleeve, skin-tight training shirt he continued to attempt shot after shot on the south end of the court. "You better quit for the day," said Kevin Hicks, Trey's teacher and dad.

`Impaired' List Tough to Leave ; Hinkson Assessed for Permissible Pollutants.

When Hinkson Creek was put on Missouri's impaired waterways list in 1998, it was simple observation rather than data that led to the conclusion that the urban stream was "obviously unhealthy." Getting it off that list, however, is not going to be as easy.

Open Congressional Seat Creates Buzz

For Jason Van Eaton, a longtime aide to Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof's move out of Washington represents a chance to fulfill a grade-school dream of running for office. Van Eaton, 36, who left the position of Bond's state director to move into Bond's political team and pursue private-sector opportunities, said he is "absolutely" considering a congressional run. He said he's been talking to donors and political officials and will mull things over with his family before decidin...
