Glasgow Turns Tables On Quarterfinal Foe

KIRKSVILLE - Revenge and one more game. That is all Glasgow wanted yesterday when they took on La Plata in the Class 1 quarterfinals at Truman State University. The Yellowjackets earned both as they knocked off La Plata 63-44 less than a year after the Bulldogs beat Glasgow in the same quarterfinal matchup. "It makes this one real sweet," Glasgow Coach Mick Cropp said. "La Plata is a heck of a ball team. Our team came out, we had a game plan and those kids executed it really, really well."

Tigers Crown Two ; Marable, Askren Win Big 12 Wrestling Titles.

STILLWATER, Okla. - It takes a lot to get under Nick Marable's skin. The stoic 165-pounder for Missouri doesn't get excited before big matches, doesn't get worried in the middle of close ones and rarely celebrates after them. Missouri Coach Brian Smith thinks that Marable's ability to keep a level head is his most valuable quality in making sure he wins most of them.

Bulldogs `D' Puts Leash On Warriors ; Notre Dame Limits High-Scoring Trio.

Notre Dame boys basketball Coach Paul Hale can be demanding. Just ask Austin Greer. "I've never been pushed so hard," Greer said.

Put the Best Foot Forward ; Williams' Image Could Be Just As Important As Stats in Draft.

If the NFL truly wants to shed the shadowy impressions cast by knucklehead athletes such as Michael Vick and Pacman Jones, then surely there's a place for Missouri's Lorenzo Williams among the league's 32 teams. For one, Williams developed into one of the Big 12 Conference's best playmaking defensive linemen last season despite being perceived as undersized for the position. Though, at 6-foot-1 and 305 pounds, Williams is just a few buffet visits lighter than projected top-five pick Glenn Dor...

It's a Bruin Bash ; Rock Bridge Girls Rout Red Knights for State Crown.

Playing for the first state basketball championship in the school's history, a few members of the Rock Bridge girls team admitted to pregame nerves before they took Norm Stewart Court for last night's Class 5 girls final against nationally ranked Incarnate Word. "Before the game I thought I was going to throw up," Rock Bridge sophomore Amaya Williams said.

Crow Puts Chill Into Sycamores ; Ace Strikes Out Nine in Missouri Victory.

Cold temperatures and the constant threat of winter weather twice delayed the change of seasons at Taylor Stadium. On a sunny day that was still only 31 degrees at first pitch, the Missouri Tigers emerged from their dugout with an impressive crowd of 696 on hand to witness the coming of a much-anticipated spring.

Fertile Mind ; Tomato Trials Offer Mouth-Watering Varieties

The crazy-about-gardening folks and those who think gardening is crazy are letting their minds wander into the spring and beyond to summertime, when the livin' is easy and the tomatoes are ripe. In this country, more tomatoes are consumed than any other vegetable or fruit. We Americans love our tomatoes. With 10,000 varieties to choose from and the increased popularity and availability of heirloom selections, our obsession has become sport. The choices are mind-boggling, and most of us are li...

Obama Equivocates On Farrakhan Support

Transfixed by the two-candidate "horse race," maybe we didn't focus precisely on what happened in the home stretch of the last Democratic debate, when Barack Obama tried to pick and nuance his way through a straight-ahead question from MSNBC's Tim Russert. Q: Do you accept the support of Louis Farrakhan?

Travel for Boomers

A new travel Web site has been launched for baby boomers at www.boomeropia.com. "I happen to be a baby boomer, and I felt like the fun side of me wasn't being catered to and marketed to," said Web site founder Liz Dahl, 59, in a phone interview from her office in Louisville. "I was getting ads for medication and hearing aids."

Iran Rises to Prominence Thanks to Bush

Are the media dumb or just out to lunch? Sorry to be intemperate, but how else can one explain the meager attention paid to the truly historic visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Iraq? Not only is he the first Mideast head of state to visit the country since its alleged liberation, but the very warm official welcome offered by the Iraqi government to the most vociferous critic of the United States speaks volumes to the abject failure of the Bush doctrine.

Book On Hillary Targets Trivia Rather Than Qualifications

Call it the Case of the Cleavage that Consumed the Senate. The infamous incident - important only because a number of social critics deem it so - has come to be known as Cleavagegate. Or, as writer Judith Warner dubs it, "The Cleavage Conundrum." The flap occurred in July 2007 when Sen. Hillary Clinton, Democratic candidate for president, stood on the Senate floor in Washington to talk about the rising cost of higher education, and "her cleavage crept out of her decolletage."

A Bicycle Made for You ; Figure Out Your Intended Use and Budget Before Buying a Bike.

If you're considering buying a bike, you should answer a few questions first. Most important, what kind of riding do you want to do? Do you want to ride for fitness? Just for fun? Are you going to ride on the street, bike trails or off-road? How often are you going to ride?

Did You Know? Primary-Care Doctors

You see an eye doctor. A dermatologist. A gynecologist. But when was the last time you went to a primary-care physician? Here are five reasons to make an appointment: 1. You can't see it, but she knows it's there: Hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes don't necessarily manifest themselves in symptoms, said Penny West, an internal medicine specialist at Baylor Medical Center at Irving, Texas. "We often find these in younger patients who think they are healthy."
