Airport Settles On Best Upgrade Option

Summary


After whittling down a list of 50 options to upgrade and realign the ailing runways at Columbia Regional Airport, consultant firm RH&S and various airport advisory committees have selected a preferred alternative that preliminary estimates show would cost about $39.9 million.

Of the four final alternatives, the prices ranged from $36.2 million to $45.9 million. The Federal Aviation Administration pays as much as 95 percent of the cost of airport capital improvements, and RS&H member Joe Jackson said preliminary talks with FAA representatives suggested they approved of Columbia's plans.
