HALLSVILLE - A man with an amputated leg crawled out of a first- floor window yesterday afternoon to escape a house fire.

At just after 2 p.m., Jeffery Guyer, 46, of Hallsville was cooking in his home at 8105 Route HH when the pot caught fire. After unsuccessfully attempting to extinguish the flames, he called 911 and fled through a bedroom window.
