'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.
Thus starts the beautiful Christmas poem written in 1822 by Clement C. Moore for his nine children. The story goes on to tell of a little elf-like man who travels in a miniature sleigh pulled by eight tiny reindeer. This jolly man, who must be St. Nick, slips down the chimney and leaves gifts for the sleeping children and then is quickly away, into the night calling, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."See the full content of this document
