Last Wednesday was my night to cook. My husband and I both walked in the door at dusk. Preoccupied with thoughts of deadlines and daily distractions, I pulled the Chinese takeout menu from a heap of junk mail under the phone book. As I was dialing, I looked around the kitchen and saw that we actually had a good bit of fall produce filling big bowls on the counter - and I also remembered we had recently made something of a frugality pact, a pledge to "live more simply."
