WASHINGTON - Defending their record in the aftermath of devastating hurricanes, insurance industry leaders yesterday lashed back at attempts by Florida and Congress to contain the high cost of consumer premiums.
Punitive state regulations and risky coastal development, not insurers, are to blame for making coverage hard to find and unaffordable, they asserted. And, they warned, a state or national insurance pool designed to spread risk will only shift expenses from homeowners in storm-prone areas to consumers elsewhere.See the full content of this document
