City to Look Into Increasing Rental Fees

Summary


The city of Columbia has dropped plans to alter fees for property owners in the coming fiscal years, but over the next several months city officials will assess expenses related to rental inspections to determine if fees should be raised by late 2012.

In his proposed budget for fiscal year 2012, which was released to the public July 29, City Manager Mike Matthes recommended several changes in fees for rental property owners, including an elimination of the application and renewal per building fee, increases in application and renewal per unit fees, an increase in the re- inspection fee from $20 to $81.15, and an increase in a fee for failing to meet with an inspector from $15 to $40.58.
