Columbia Doctor a Heck of an Athlete

Summary

It is a pleasure to write about obstetrician/gynecologist George Fuchs. I learned from my dear wife, Pat, that he delivered her daughter, Gina, into this world in 1957. He had a great practice in Columbia for many years. His hobbies were sports of all kinds. He played on the Navy Great Lakes football team, the Miami of Ohio team and, while in medical school, played quarterback on the University of Wisconsin football team. What a scholar and an athlete!

George later played racquetball with his brother, Bill, and even a few matches with my son, David. In addition to racquetball, he played slow-pitch softball on a Junior Chamber of Commerce league -- we called it the Looper League. The softball was pitched in a loop or arc so it dropped down onto or close to the plate. I, too, enjoyed the game in the 1950s along with Dr. Hugh Stephenson Jr. George also enjoyed refereeing high school football games in Mid- Missouri. He was a very active man and a real asset to our community.
