Summary


One of the things I most wanted to be among the many "wannabes" I've experienced in three-quarters of a century on Earth is the urge to be the managing editor of a small-town newspaper, preferably a daily.

The urge was so strong that I had lunch a dozen years ago with Sally Malloy, then handling the placement program at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. I was the international director for the Atlanta Braves at the time.
