Editor, the Tribune: As I write this, I'm also writing a thank you note to Warren Buffett and Bill Gates for the ongoing positive effects from their philanthropic choices of the recent past. I was heartened to see George Will, in his column on Oct. 14 ("Conspicuous consumption reigns supreme"), quote statistics on wealth disparity in the United States. Columnists of his ilk usually accuse economists of fomenting the dreaded "class warfare" when citing the very same facts. Pointing out one of the causes of a disease doesn't create it. True class warfare in this country would amount to 90 percent of the population ceasing to beat each other up about false divisions and voting out the lobbyists of the wealthiest 10 percent.
