The abiding issue of payment for Columbia City Council members is on the table again.

Under terms of the current city charter, council positions are unpaid but reasonable expenses can be reimbursed. In practice, members fail to turn in ordinary expenses but do get paid for travel to approved destinations. Considering the time it takes to serve on the council, members contribute a lot from their own pockets.
