Continuity of care -- the concept that a young child can benefit from forming attachments to and developing a long-term relationship with one caregiver -- is the underlying focus of infant and toddler care at Columbia's Curiosity Castle.
Research shows that an infant who forms attachments and bonds with a caregiver will have a better sense of self esteem, will be under less stress and will be more willing to explore his environment. It is through exploration that the infant learns. A child has a better chance of learning when he is emotionally secure.
