Editor, the Tribune: Here we go again. Amendment 2 was replete with duplicity and erroneous language. The article "Stem cell research opponents launch cloning ban effort" begins with an erroneous headline. It should have read, "Embryonic stem cell research opponents launch cloning ban effort." Nearly all stem cell research is done with adult stem cells, and all clinical trials are done with adult, not embryonic, stem cells. Sothe headline isreally wrong and gives readers the impression that the "opponents" are against what, to the contrary, they heartily support.

Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) is the scientificmethodand term for cloning. The purpose of this research is to create an embryo, of which an integral part is its stem cells. In "harvesting" the stem cells, you kill the embryo. At Day One, this embryo is a human being by virtue of having its full genetic base and being self- developing from that pointin life on. We all began that way.
