Two weekends ago, my friend Cid and I made the rounds to the farmers markets, scouting for an easy, picnic-style dinner.

After picking up soft goat cheese and a loaf of chewy ciabatta, we spotted Guy Clark standing under his tent at the Columbia Farmers Market cleaning what looked like onions with long stalks. We moved in for a closer look. "Garlic," he said, brushing the earth off the roots.
