Editor, the Tribune: Thanks so much for the thoughtful article that explains the ongoing challenges and heartbreak faced by the staff and volunteers at Central Missouri Humane Society.

From 1997 to 2000, I was proud to serve on the board of directors for CMHS. I moved to Chicago and continued my work in animal welfare, but CMHS has always stayed in my heart and on my mind. I am pleased to hear that people in Columbia have moved beyond the no- kill/traditional shelter divisiveness. In every community, there must be an agency of last resort for homeless companion animals, and CMHS is that agency.
