Summary


So, what happened when a billionaire and a rabbi sat down together to talk about their mutual vision? They started a national network of college institutes devoted to serving older learners that became the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes.

Starting in 1999 with an adult learning program at the University of Southern Maine, the programs spread across our land until this senior college became available to almost all who wished to continue the learning experience as they grew into mid-life and beyond. According to Edgar Allen Beem, writing for The American Society on Aging, Rabbi Harry Sky, now 82 years old, said that as he officiated at a friend's funeral he started a conversation with a brother of his friend, who turned out to be Bernard Osher, a billionaire businessman and art patron.
