Summary


If the Columbia Board of Education chooses Skip Deming as the next CPS superintendent, the board could be hiring the district's first leader without a doctoral degree.

Dating back to 1932, Assistant Superintendent Lynn Barnett said, every full-time superintendent of Columbia Public Schools has had a Ph.D. In 1998, when the school district had co-superintendents, Deming held the post with Marjorie Spaedy, who held a doctorate.
