Level of Outrage Over War Should Be Much Greater

Summary

Editor, the Tribune: The lack of outrage over the war in Iraq and the state of the union disturb me. Daily, U.S. soldiers are killed or maimed and countless Iraqi civilians are needlessly killed for an illegal, immoral war. I think we need to hear from the wounded and relatives of the dead - yet most of the media seem to downplay the carnage as much as possible.

It turns out that President George W. Bush was planning this war before Sept. 11, 2001. Even Republicans were stunned after Sept. 11 by the Bush crew's scramble to link Saddam Hussein to Saudi Arabian terrorists who attacked us. Iraq had nothing to do with Sept. 11, and Bush says he was "careful not to link al-Qaida to Saddam Hussein." What? And weren't people sickened by his joke at the press corps dinner about the search for weapons of mass destruction in the Oval Office? The guests knew that was a blatant, unfunny lie - a pretense for an unprovoked attack on Iraq.
