150 Years Ago: A Regiment of Missouri Volunteers Arrives in Columbia

COLUMBIA -- Lt. Col. Erastus Morse with 80 men from the 10th Missouri Volunteers arrived in Columbia after a two-day march from Fayette.

He brought with him two men arrested in Fayette for disloyalty. Morse and his mounted command had marched from Renick on the North Missouri Railroad across Howard and Chariton counties and back, pursuing a guerrilla band under Capt. John Sweeney.
