Salvation Army Shelter Sees Influx of Families

With winter setting in, an unusually high number of children are staying at the Salvation Army Harbor House. Large families are finding themselves in need of housing this holiday season, filling the shelter's six family rooms, said Maj. Kendall Mathews, regional coordinator for the Salvation Army. "Our numbers now indicate that the need is going to be greater this year," he said. "If we're nearly at capacity and it's just now getting into the cold months, can you imagine January and February? I'm a little nervous."

The Salvation Army's Harbor House has more children staying in it than ever before.
