For some months an important discussion has been under way regarding development in the large area more or less defined by the location of the new high school east of town.
The issue is catalyzed by a request for annexation and rezoning of the so-called Richland Road project, 271 acres of commercial and residential development in the area. Developers tout the advantage to the city of being able to deal with a large tract in a comprehensive way, but neighbors worry about large impending changes and city planners know this area is likely to experience extraordinary pressure for development.
