Summary
Federal officials, beholden to the farm lobby, want to increase the amount of ethanol allowed in gasoline at the pump to 15 percent, a proposal raising a large round of opposition from engine manufacturers, food suppliers, boat builders, ordinary drivers and hosts of worriers in between.
Currently, most gasoline contains 10 percent ethanol, a misbegotten mandate that is not good for engines, reduces mileage and increases the cost of driving. In the United States, ethanol is produced mainly by distilling corn -- essentially making corn liquor and then polluting the intoxicating batches with a little bit of gasoline to avoid producing illegal white lightning.See the full content of this document
