Last night, while distraught fans filed out of Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., the party was getting started elsewhere in New England. I'm referring to Bristol, Conn., where ESPN staffers -- who had resigned themselves to parsing the grunts of Bill Belichick through the Super Bowl -- got the unexpected treat of at least one more week of programming brought to you by the round mound of sound.

When Rex Ryan's New York Jets beat Belichick's New England Patriots 28-21 in the AFC playoffs, it meant ESPN could skip the production meetings.
