Summary


The so-called "Missouri Plan" is highly regarded nationwide and copied in 34 other states, yet a current effort in the General Assembly would scuttle it.

Our landmark system for choosing appellate and urban trial judges is designed to minimize the effect of politics. When a vacancy occurs, a seven-person panel including three members chosen by governors, three elected by attorneys and one by the chief justice of the Missouri Supreme Court sends the names of three nominees to the governor, who picks one.
