Mounting pressure for some sort of citizen board to review Columbia Police Department disciplinary actions has had an effect. A department study has produced a new system.
Most past complaining stemmed from alleged lack of response to complaints, which produced little more than a cursory promise to "look into the matter." As criticism rose, the police department launched an internal review with the help of a hired consultant.
