As we head for our planes, boats and trains to celebrate the holidays with loved ones, we might give some thought to staying well and enjoying the pleasures of the season. The makers of a number of products now on the market now tout boosting our immune system as a health measure during the winter.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest recently consulted the leading expert on immunity, David Neiman, a professor of health nutrition and director of Appalachian State University's Human Performance Laboratory. Asked whether our immunity really fluctuates, Neiman said: "If our immunity really fluctuated depending on what we ate for dinner last night or which supplements we might have taken this morning, my many years of research into the matter does not show any such result."
