The Tribune's View ; What's Up with Blunt?

Summary


Last week Gov. Matt Blunt paid a visit at the Tribune office. He comes every now and then to gently brainwash the journalists at our institution. I'm always glad to see him. Despite certain differences of political opinion, we are good enough friends to always converse with ease with a few smiles and occasionally a gentle laugh. Blunt is not given to raucous jocularity.

The governor is peddling a rather sanguine view of his accomplishments to date. With only two sessions of the General Assembly behind him, he has been able to reach most of the large goals he set out when he took office in 2004: Tort reform, check. Economic development, check. Medicare reform, check. Job growth, check. State revenue increases, check. Increased funding for education, check. Balanced budgets and no tax increases, check.
