Two unattended burns in Howard County yesterday grew out of control and torched acres of rural land, keeping fire crews busy for hours.
Firefighters began battling the first fire, near County Road 409A, about 1 p.m., said Clave Dougherty, a volunteer with the Howard County Fire Protection District. Firefighters from the Boone County Fire Protection District assisted Howard County crews in battling the blaze, which Dougherty said scorched more than 10 acres of a grass field and more than 10 acres of woodland. A small shed on the property, which Dougherty said had no inhabitants, also was burned in the fire.See the full content of this document
