Summary


Almost 40 percent of Columbia Public Schools students qualify for the federally funded free or reduced-price lunch program. But there's another population of students who need help -- families that don't quite qualify for the federal program but still struggle to pay for lunch.

Today, the school district unveiled the United Way Lunch for Learning Fund, which aims to help that segment of students. Heart of Missouri United Way provided a $5,000 grant to start the fund, and an anonymous donor from the organization's board pledged to match each dollar up to $5,000 that residents donate over the next two weeks.
