Editor, the Tribune: This letter is prompted by the publication on April 29 of a letter by Professor Emeritus William Robertson. I agree with Professor Robertson's comments and am reminded of the situation described below.

Natives in a Southeast Asian country have a novel way of trapping monkeys. The trap employs a length of hollow tree, cut and capped at each end. The assembly must be heavy enough so that the monkey can't physically drag it away. Bait is placed inside. A hole is made in the side of the trunk. The diameter of the hole is critical: It must be large enough to admit the monkey's empty paw but no larger.
