Editor, the Tribune: Nine out of 10 of the warmest years since 1860 have been in the past 10 years. Climate temperatures are increasing at roughly 0.2 degree Celsius per decade. The swiftly changing climate is not a problem that will simply go away with proper legislation; each one of us has contributed to the warming, and each one of us can contribute to the solution. Change on a personal level is an indispensable tool in reforming our consumption habits.
As the spring weather approaches, and with PedNet's recent and continued work, cycling is a viable transportation option. Food purchased at the grocery store travels on average 1,500 to 2,500 miles. Not only does buying locally grown food drastically reduce the fossil fuel consumption in food miles, but it keeps dollars within our community. In these crucial, action-based times it would do well for everyone to adopt the motto, "Think globally, act locally."See the full content of this document
